The Low Anthem - Ghost Woman Blues
The Low Anthem’s new record, Smart Flesh, dropped yesterday. Their 2009 album Oh My God Charlie Darwin blew me away, and I straight up cried like a baby at their SXSW show that year. I can’t wait to spend some time with this one. This band is doing so much right. But you don’t have to take my word for it. From this great feature in the NYTimes, Echoes of Another Time and Place:
“I don’t even know if they know that what they are doing is brave,” said Emmylou Harris, who shared a tour with them. “In a way they are harkening back to parlor music with those instruments, some of which I don’t even recognize. They have a strange and wonderful repertory, and their ensemble singing is haunting and beautiful.”
