Tune-Yards - Fiya
For those who missed this the first time around — and for those who didn’t! Tune-Yards is one of my favorite discoveries of 2009. Merrill Garbus is a one woman force to be reckoned with. She performs and records solo, playing or singing and looping each piece of her tracks. I saw her for the first time at SXSW and again at the Northside Festival in Williamsburg.
This may be my favorite tune on her debut LP Bird-Brains, but it’s a close call. She’s nailed a few great ones on this album. Get it here.
