Family Band - Again
Kim Krans, Jonny Ollsin and Scott Hirsch got together with Daniel Rossen to record this track for Weathervane Music and WXPN’s Shaking Through series. (Stand up, Philadelphia!) Per the website, Shaking Through “gives the audience an exciting and intimate window into the recording process.” If you haven’t seen any of these videos, definitely have a look through the archive. They’ve recorded sessions with Strand of Oaks, Twin Sister, Sharon Van Etten, Purling Hiss and many more.
This was my first exposure to Family Band and I’m sold. As Daniel Rossen discusses in the video below, Kim has a beautiful, sparse style, her husband Jonny (get it? Family Band?) is a reformed metal guitar shredder, and their friend Scott is a little bit country. It comes together magically for a dark but full sound.
