Califone - Funeral Singers

I have a special place in my heart for Tim Rutili and company. I was living in Chicago when I fell in love with music. I saw everyone from my roommates’ bands to then unknowns Neko Case and Andrew Bird at The Hideout, a great little club in an industrial area on the northwest side. I heard Red Red Meat there for the first time when I was in college and I saw them again just a few months ago in Austin — with the Hideout owners, as it happened.

Tim Rutili formed Califone after RRM split up, and I like them as much as anyone who’s come out of the Chicago Thrill Jockey scene. Really exciting to hear new stuff from these guys.
